Teaching Dance At River Rouge High School

No truer words have been spoken about the joys of teaching. To teach is to continue the path of learning for yourself as one instructs others. It’s an immense responsibility to be a teacher of any subject. The most beautiful aspect of this is the ability to literally watch your students transform as time goes by, under your own tutelage. There is no creative endeavor that is as rewarding! 

This being said, I’m happy to announce that I’ve been teaching Dance at River Rouge High School! Given the state of the dance community and world at large in this present moment, I took a different approach to teaching my students: I fused in their love of popular dance, like TikTok, along with the classical technique of the art form. Doing this allowed us to connect in a way that better allowed them to grasp the movements, have fun, and most of all, to express their own creativity. 

As this semester ends I’m reminded of what a precious thing it is to mold young minds, and the future of tomorrow. Teaching has been such an experience this year, and I’m grateful for everything that took place. Although being a teacher is challenging, it is well worth it.
