The old adage ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ springs to mind this day. Have you ever stopped to consider how medicinal movement is? Exercise is highly beneficial to your body, so beneficial that it can thwart disease. So beneficial that it can even help heal you from illness. Medicine is defined as the science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. By this definition we can see where and how movement comes into play as a medicine. When we workout are we not practicing, or engaged in a practice? Yes, it is, and we are. Is exercise not based on what we know about science, kinetics, how our bodies work? Yes, it is. Working out can be tough. Setting aside time to sweat can feel like torture to some people. On rough days remember the old adage, and remember that moving your body is one of the best medicines you can give it. What kind of medicine are you practicing today?
